Communications/Media Wheel A will examine the most prevalent forms of communication in our modern world while endeavoring to master them. The long-term ramifications of communicating and the methodology needed to be effective will be our focus. We will be creating a YouTube channel where our work product will be on display.

On our Finals Day, we will have a Student Short Film Festival, where each filmmaker will present their piece with a brief introduction, then be prepared to discuss their work afterwards.

 The Not News Channel
After viewing and understanding the fact based, journalistic style employed in newscasts and documentaries. Students will create a video piece, no more than five minutes in length centering around a historical figure or event. This is the suggested format for your short piece, but if you have a compelling idea and a plan to get it done, you may do something different after discussing it with me. We will be compiling these videos at the end of the quarter and uploading them to youtube.

In order to prepare for shooting, we will be rehearsing our scenes in front of the class. Your off book (lines memorized) rehearsal will be graded for extra credit by judging your level of preparedness. This assignment will not be required but recommended.

 Dialogue Collection Exercise
For this assignment, you will be a spy. Write down sentences you overhear throughout the day until you have collected ten sentences. You will then create a dialogue between two characters using your found sentences.

For the rough drafts for your screenplays which are due in a couple of weeks, take a look at the attached .jpeg file.
If your screenplay is mostly imagery, you should describe what the audience will see in a scene description which should appear in the Action section of the screenplay, left margin justified.

Silent Improvisation Game: After viewing the work of Chaplin, Keaton, and Lloyd, we will play a game in class where one actor is given a title card and has to pantomime the meaning to another actor. The audience must try to guess at the meaning before the actor receiving the message. Everyone is expected to participate. = 5 Participation points.

Your synopsis for your Not News segment will not have a teaser like a traditional synopsis would. Instead, you will tell me the beginning, middle and end. The plot summary should be no longer than a page in length since your short film we be no more than 5 minutes.

Type and print a paragraph about some of the non verbal communication that you have encountered on a daily basis. Your observations may include anything you observe that is not spoken. Some examples might include graffiti,  street signs, body language or facial expressions. You do not have to limit yourself to these however.
