Ballet I AB is a course for the dance major with beginning to basic training. Each dance student follows a rigorous approach to the study of ballet for two consecutive semesters. This class focuses on the concepts of ballet through techniques and terminology developed by the Royal Academy of Dance.
Students begin to build technical foundations with increasing physical and technical demands, as well as self-discipline, and artistic expression. Students must master basic levels of strength and flexibility, as well as skills and terminology. Embedded in this course curriculum is body conditioning as appropriate for ballet dancers, as well as a basic introduction to Dance Anatomy.
Students will work on Grades 3 & 4 of the Royal Academy syllabus and may have the opportunity to perform their work for an internationally recognized adjudicator in the spring. There will be a Level 1 Performance in April to culminate the students' first year in Dance Academy and celebrate their progress.
