CHAMPS Charter High School of the Arts Recognized as One of the Best in the Nation for Music Education

CHAMPS will host a Lunch Concert for our students, featuring Black Tie Event, and recognizing CHAMPS Music Academy for receiving the 2019 SupportMusic Merit Award from The NAMM Foundation.

The award recognizes the commitment and dedication of CHAMPS Charter High School of the Arts to music and the arts as innovative learning opportunities for a well-rounded education.

Based out of Detroit, MI, Black Tie Event has been on tour in Southern California and will stop off at CHAMPS to perform in celebration of our Music Academy teachers and students, and our Advanced Choral Ensemble led by Mr. Gabriel Salazar, who’ve just returned from their Carnegie Hall debut.

The choir was the Featured Choir at the Festival at Carnegie Hall and student Leila Johnson was the chosen soloist out of 400 singers in the Festival Choir.

About Black Tie Event:

Born out of Detroit, Black Tie Event burst into the local scene with their unique alternative pop style and has grown into a commanding force in the festival and events music scene, such as Warped Tour, the Comic-Con After Party, Homegrown Heroes Music Festival and more. This young trio recorded their first EP entitled Nothing In Life Is Free in 2015.
