Paul DeBonis has made a career of the practice, support, and development of innovative approaches to education. He began teaching English, French, and journalism at Hollywood High School. As lead technology teacher for the school’s New Media Academy he collaborated with colleagues in the design and implementation of an interdisciplinary, project-based curriculum.
Paul moved out of the classroom to advise other high schools in building similar programs around a diverse set of themes from culinary arts, to engineering. Paul has spent the past two years working with six schools involved in the Linked Learning Initiative. Linked Learning emphasizes collaboration between academic and technical teachers and their subjects, student-centered group learning in the classroom, and a wide range of partnerships between schools and the community.
Currently, Paul works with career-themed pathways at nine high schools in the San Fernando Valley. As Career Technical Education Advisor he supports teachers who prepare students for careers in robotics & engineering, entrepreneurship, health & medicine, media & design, and child development to name a few.
