Yasmin Shepperd attended La Sierra University as a biology major, with the aspirations of continuing on to medical school. Financial and family issues made it necessary for her to relinquish her dream of becoming a doctor, one of the reasons she is so passionately involved in the college process for high school students. Yasmin’s first career was in respiratory care at Loma Linda Medical Center, which she held until the birth of her second child. She took a thirteen year hiatus from the medical field to raise her four children, Gibron, Alexandra, Elleana and Khyber. During this time, she helped grow a business in the music industry and was an active volunteer at her children’s schools, serving as PTA President and a School Site Council Secretary/Member.
In 2004, when discussions began about establishing a school in the San Fernando Valley to meet the needs of students with a passion for the arts, Yasmin became instrumental in the development of what is now Charter High School of the Arts (CHAMPS). Although initially a volunteer, Yasmin officially joined the CHAMPS staff in the fall of 2009. All four of her children graduated from CHAMPS.
